The Greater Harrison Community Family Center is an agency designed to prevent child abuse and neglect within the Greater Harrison Community. We achieve this goal through providing a range of high quality services.
After School Program
The Family Center conducts a 5-day-a-week after school for approximately 40 children from the ages of 6 - 12. The program runs from October through June every year. The core elements include: homework assistance, community service, physical activity, cultural enrichment and computer literacy.
Eligibility requirements: Ages 6-12
Months: October - June
Youth Development Programs
The Family Center conducts youth programs for approximately 2 days a week during after school hours for students attending Wanamaker Middle and William Penn High Schools. The programs run from October through June every year. The themes of these programs include: rites of passage, career development, and community service.
Days: Two days a week
Parenting Education Classes
The Family Center offers year round parenting classes to a variety of groups: kinship caregivers, fathers, teen parents, parents of children with special needs, etc. In addition, our parenting expert provides crisis counseling, related to parenting issues, to parents who have attended the classes.
Family Development Services
The Family Center has two full-time Case Managers available to assess the needs of families, develop goal plans, and assist families in accessing and utilizing community resources.
Information & Referral and Linkage
TThe Family Center has resource guides and staff available to assist individuals in identifying resources for themselves and their families.
Kinship Care Support and Education
The Family Center offers workshops twice a month to assist kinship caregivers in their role as guardians of their relative's children and to provide them with the resources to better care for themselves as well.
Volunteer In-Home Support
The Family Center offers caregivers of children with special needs in home support. Through the Family Friends program, older adult volunteers visit the homes of families to relieve the caregiver, engage the child in educational/recreational activities, and support the family as a whole.
